The O’Russey Kandal Community-Based Ecotourism Site was established in 2007 with the help of the environmental NGO ‘Mlup Baitong’. The project aims to support people in the community which can be achieved through the protection and management of their natural resources. This directly leads to an improvement of the living conditions of local people and they get sustainable involved. In total 446 families live in the community of O’Russey Kandal which consists of only one village.
O’Reussey Kandal is located in Stung Treng Province, located approximately 28 kilometers (17 miles) south of the provincial town along National Road No. 7. It takes between 8 to 10 hours from Phnom Penh to O’Russey Kandal. The environmental NGO encourages the villagers by providing them environmental training courses such as community leadership skills, environmental protection as well as hospitality performance towards tourists.
You can take a refreshing swim in one of the six streams in the area or let the micro-rapids carry you along the woodland flow. Go trekking or cycling in the community forest to observe a great variety of trees and watch wildlife such as deer, wild pigs and birds. Along the path you can find wooden huts which are perfect for a picnic. Meet villagers and experience Khmer culture firsthand while tasting local food.
