Virachey National Park was established in 2004 by the Ministry of Environment (MoE). With a total size of 3.325 square kilometers, Virachey National Park is the largest National Park among seven other National Parks in the country. The area offers an incredible insight into the diversity of Cambodia’s existing wilderness and wildlife.
Virachey National Park is located within the provinces of Rattanakiri and Stung Treng as well as shares borders with Lao and Vietnam. Banlung, the capital of Rattanakiri Province, can be reached by bus from Phnom Penh. Virachey National Park is 50 kilometers (31 miles) away from Banlung, depending on season and road conditions it takes between 1 to 5 hours to go there.’
Visitors can go on multiday guided trekking tours through the park which includes outdoor camping at night. They can choose between three trekking trips that differ in length and scenery. They can select between ‘Phnom Veal Thom wilderness trek’, ‘Kalang Chhouy Sacred Mountain trek’ and ‘O’Lapeung trek. Depending on the type of route you will hike through natural Montane Grassland, villages and the national park as well as trek along sections of Ho Chi Minh trail. At night you either will stay in a village home-stay or go camping in the forest at a waterfall.
